Prof. Dr. Said Abdelwahed: Gaza is a city of ghosts

January 3, 2008. 6:08 P.M

I have minutes to write. Nine F16s raided at targets in Gaza. Artellery shelled a 30 kilometers strip of cultivated land to the east of Gaza Strip. Then, several air raids flollowed; they targeted mosques, homes, al-Resala newspaper offices. minutes ago, eleven praying men were killed in bombing a mosques in Biet Lahia at sunset (Magreb) prayers. Among them was a reporter of al-Aqsa TV. No electricity; no water; no life in the city. Officially 460 people declared dead and 2300 injured. Mobile phone are out of order; land telephones can harldy catch and answer. Gaza is a city of ghosts. Ground offensive is on the move with two tanks and a budlozer.

What about Hamas which is throwing hundreds of rockets on civilians?

No one wants this stupid war! No one!!

ISraelis do care about people. Israel is not a criminal state. The only crime they committed is to wish to live in peace.

If you want to stop this war just stop the rockets. Decide to live in peace.

Three years ago Israel left completly the GAza strip. The Palestinians voted for a terrorist organization. Today they pay for that.

It s just sad tosee that people are dying because of that.

Hamas is responsible.

I know that this post is gonna be deleted very soon so God bless democracy and protect the innocents!

To Mr. GAB:

First, I have to disagree with you when you claim that no one wants this so-called war ( In my opinion, at the present time it is an military occupation, not a war...but it is just an opinion). I'd agree with you if you said that "normal people", "citizens in general", do not want this war. We can go deeper on that if you like.

Second, The natural, logical, human (we can call it the way we want) reaction to abuses like those shown in the videos below, is that of anger, frustration or sensitivity to any call for uprising:

This is being a vivid conflict for decades, this conflict did not start with Hamás bombing certain territories, and will NOT be brought to an end by Hamás holding the bombs (As you intend to simplify ), neither by Israel devastating Gaza.

The problem has always been that neither the Palestinians nor the Israelis accept the other side's "right" to be there. The current "arrangement" (As of 1948) did not and will not solve the problem.

Please remember that ones and the others have been controlling the palestinian territory, for 10 centuries in one case, 13 centuries in the other; so I would say that in an historical context, 60 years of the current status quo, is a blink of an eye.

Hamas has a responsability in what happened today but Israel has one too, of course. How ANY people in the world would act as if they were going to slavery ? as they were starved, as they were denied of a decent life, denied of food, water or energy ? How any people would act if they were controled by police several times a day, as if they were treated as inferiors in front of their wife or children ?
Elders, Remember Varsovia gettho and what you being ready to do to survive ? Israelians, Please respect Life and you'll save yours and your soul too.

Why all the people, who protest against Israel attacks on Gaza, were not protesting when Hamas was firing rockets in Israel? Any explanations?

Dear all,

Thank you for the discussion. This blog is open for everyone, as long as there is respect.

People...the attacks on Israeli civilians in Sderot and other towns by Hamas is very sad. But this is not the root cause. Neither is Hamas. The root cause is the continuous inhumane SEIGE against Gaza, which drived people into poverty, despair, violence and death. What can you expect from people who have been put in a prison and deprived from their basic rights? Although the rockets are wrong, they are a result, and not a cause. Moreover, facts on the ground prove that it is Israel that violated the ceasefire through the several assasinations and targeted attacks on Hamas during the truce.

However, the main reason is the siege, which the whole world seems to ignore. A siege is considered as an act of war.

According to Israel, a siege is an "act of war". And this is what happened in 1967 when the Egyptian President Abdul Naser put a siege on Israel. This is what the Israeli official Knesset website says:

"In Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser blockaded the Straits of Tiran on May 21st and 22nd to all shipping from and to Eilat; the area was open to Israeli ships under UN supervision since 1957, and Israel repeatedly stated that such a blockade will be considered as casus belli (justification for acts of war). "

http://www.knesset.gov.il/lexicon/eng/six_days_eng.htm

So in other words, Israel practiced war on Hamas and Gaza for months and years through the siege before talking about the rockets.

I hope the root cause is now clear. And you saw Mr. Gab, your post was not deleted. In fact, it was discussed.

Thank you.

Thank you very much for your description, what's happening there is just inacceptable. They are trying to hide it by not allowing reporters in, but thanks to your blog all the world can know. Please check this link, they used your blog to describe what's happening in Gaza in a very well read French Newspaper --http://www.lemonde.fr/la-guerre-de-gaza/article/2009/01/05/sur-les-blogs-de-gaza-chronique-d-une-vie-en-etat-de-siege_1137851_1137859.html--All of the word eyes are towards you, people pray for your all around the world. This is extremely hard and unfair, but please hang on. Soon these crimes that can only be described as a second haulaucost will be over. Allah m3kom!
